The “Outlaws” update introduced a number of upgrades to No Man’s Sky including a new ship type employing solar sails, new character costume features, namely, capes and last it included a whole new star system type, “outlaw systems”, the space stations contain therein run by ne’er do wells and scofflaws. There a character could engage in all types of questionable endeavors, like bounty hunting, buying forged permits or questionable goods and, most importantly, acting as a courier, delivering illicit goods.

I thought it would be fun to frame this particular iteration of Low Orbit around one of my childhood favorite movies, “Ice Pirates” as I thought it both a fairly humorous reference and topical to this update. I dressed Imphead and Friday in costumes from the movie, made reference to “space herpes” and true to form had or erstwhile heroes smuggling ice (and also true to form, not in the most efficient way possible.)

Though I was fairly happy with how this comic turned out it wasn’t received as well as I’d hoped. I honestly believe it was due to the relative obscurity of my source material. I honestly believe that the majority of No Man Sky players just weren’t aware of the 1984 gem that was “Ice Pirates”. Their loss.
